Yep. Imagine would have been my first pick, too. Good job, WMNF folks. And I would have included a Monk cut in there somewhere….a big one, like ‘Round Midnight, which, I venture to say, has been covered by about every jazz artist since the piece was written. Aha, I just looked it up: Wikipedia says, “It is the most recorded jazz standard composed by a jazz musician.”

Might you make a downloadable play list of these top 100’s that we members could access? I would be happy to up my contribution in exchange for that play list!

I think a Top one hundred is really a ridiculous thing. This list does not even pick some of the best songs by artists with songs on the list case in point Buffalo Springfield. Mr Soul, Rock n Roll Woman are both way better than for what its worth. And Lou Reed? There are hundreds of songs better than walk on the wild side. Maybe next time break it down into categories like Rock, Folk Rock, Blues, Jazz, Fusion. Contemporary and classic. Then you might get a meaningful list. And one more thought… not a single Zappa song? Possibly the most amazing songwriter/composer of 20th century.

I just realized there is not one Steely Dan song on the list Ya gotta be kidding!!! Johnny B Goode beats AJA? Deacon Blues? Rikki don’t lose that number, Reeling in the years? How many people voted to make this list? Most of the songs on the list I have heard but never actually play in my car or at home.
