Within the last month we have had several guests who opposed the TBX Project, which proposes to expand the interstate system throughout Tampa bay adding toll roads. Today we hear from Raymond Chiaramonte, Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transit Authority, and Debbie Hunt with the Florida Department of Transportation, two proponents for TBX. They respond to criticism from citizens and local media, including a documentary made by USF student filmmakers, that the project won’t solve traffic congestion and would hurt the Tampa communities surrounding the interstate.

Wow…they managed to recite complete and utter bullshit through the entire interview….impressive. At what point does one decides to sell their soul?
I drive an 18-wheeler over the road and i go by what I’ve seen on my personal observations. Building NEW toll roads and NEW toll lanes are holding much needed funds hostage that should be directed instead for the upkeep and maintenance of the existing roads, bridges, interchanges, and safety improvements. I’ve noticed that the new ramp off the Selmon connector onto I-4 westbound towards I-275 is going to become a safety problem as many motorists will have to cut across four lanes in less than one mile to access the northbound ramp onto I-275. There will be lots of accidents on this last mile of I-4 westbound for many years to come. Needless to say, it’s going to have be torn down again soon to Rebuild malfunction Junction. If you can’t build it right the first time and short cut safety just for the sake of getting new roads built to save costs, then why even bother to build it in the first place. To hell with building the new roads and let’s focus on repairs and safety upgrades instead.
