State Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis has named one of his predecessors, Tom Gallagher, to serve on the Florida Insurance Guaranty Association Board of Directors.
Gallagher, a Republican, was elected in 2002 as the state’s first chief financial officer after a reorganization of Florida Cabinet positions.
Earlier, Gallagher served as insurance commissioner, education commissioner and as a lawmaker.
He unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2006.
Since 2017, he’s served as chief operating officer of People’s Trust Insurance, according to an announcement Wednesday from Patronis’ office.
The Florida Insurance Guaranty Association handles claims of insolvent property-insurance companies.
