Immigration status at hospitals

During the last legislative session, state lawmakers passed legislation some believe disproportionately affects Florida Latinos. Two Tampa state representatives addressed these issues and others at a conference at the State Capitol last week.

 

Fox’s District 13 campaign

A St. Petersburg Democrat and former Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority employee announced her campaign for the congressional seat held by Republican U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna. 36-year-old Whitney Fox has the endorsement of former St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman. Fox said in a statement that she sees the affordability crisis affecting Florida families and wants to help, noting that she is a mother of two young girls.

 

Orlando buys Pulse Nightclub

The Orlando City Council agreed to buy the former Pulse Nightclub where 49 people were killed in a mass shooting in June 2016. The city will seek to honor them with a permanent memorial on the site.

 

Medicare open enrollment

Medicare open enrollment started this week and continues through December 7th. It’s the opportunity for most seniors to make changes to their health coverage. Medicare Director Meena Seshamani is urging seniors to study their options because the health plans change and so do their medical needs, reminding us that there are also programs especially for low-income Medicare recipients.
