Devin Stephenson, who is in line to become president of Florida Polytechnic University, could make up to $1.224 million a year in the new role.
The Florida Poly Board of Trustees on Monday selected Stephenson to succeed outgoing President Randy Avent.
Stephenson is president of Northwest Florida State College, where he earned a salary of $280,000 as of last school year.
The Florida Poly trustees in February approved a total compensation range for the new president of $782,000 to $1.224 million.
That range will be used in contract negotiations with Stephenson, and a proposed employment agreement is slated to come before the trustees for consideration on April 25.
Stephenson was selected Monday over four other finalists for the job.
His appointment also would need approval from the state university system’s Board of Governors.
Florida Poly, which had 1,544 students at the beginning of the academic year, is the second-smallest school by enrollment in the state’s network of 12 universities.
