Seven candidates had formally qualified as of Friday evening to run in a special election to replace Republican Congressman Mike Waltz, who has been tapped to become President-elect Donald Trump’s national security adviser.
The qualification period in Congressional District 6 started Friday morning and will end at noon Saturday.
District 6 is made up of all or parts of Flagler, Lake, Marion, Putnam, St. Johns and Volusia counties.
State Sen. Randy Fine, R-Brevard County, has drawn the backing of Trump in the race. In addition to Fine, Sorrento Republican Aaron Baker, Daytona Beach Democrat Purvi Bangdiwala, Elkton Democrat George A. “Ges” Selmont and Orlando Democrat John Weil qualified to run.
Also qualifying were Ocala Libertarian Andrew Parrott and unaffiliated candidate Randall Terry, who ran unsuccessfully this year as the Constitution Party candidate for president.
Terry, who also lost a 2006 state Senate race, has long been a prominent anti-abortion activist.
Special primary elections will be held Jan. 28, with the general election April 1.

Florida deserves better than Randy Fine. Anybody but him
Randall Terry unethically and illegally help the government send my son with my abuser after we fled WA state from abuse. He posed as my attorney, then family law attorney, then said he was a retired police officer then said he had connections with DCYF in Olympia. He pleaded he knew nothing about civil rights. Right in front of my son who was 13 at the time told both me and my son he was out attorney and that is the only reason I was bullied into sending my son with my abuser, son’s father. I haven’t seen my son since 9-11-24. We were both sick from an infection healthcare refused to treat and I have proof of infection. I was getting threatening calls from sons doctor and ex used the family court to abuse me more. I saw pro tem attorney walk out of lab where lab orders went missing, the same day of DCS hearing I had to fight for records to prove ex lied to DCS and said son and I lived with him and he took full care of us. The court kicked me out of virtual hearing multiple times, same day notice from landlord reducing lease terms and same day I think health department denied my complaint. I was so upset that I went to news station in MT where about 50 cops came from over 2 hr standoff. The 13th court unethically forced me to have a lawyer and the psychiatrist lied in her declaration and told me she lied. I go to state hospital where they tell me I don’t have paranoid schizophrenia and release me in about a week. My ex tried to force hotel door open on 9-11-24 and my car tire was slashed. My story is told across the country. Someone keeps trying to hurry the truth. The court here unethically gave my son’s dad custody and hit me with SLAPP, costly unnecessary eval. I was acing anthropology and world civilizations before I got sicker with this infection and since nobody would help with infection I couldn’t finish my classes. I just lost my apartment, I already lost son, dog, college, car, and just under 2 weeks I’ll be homeless. All because the healthcare and court conspired with my abuser. There was no amber alert no warrant for my arrest. No kidnapping charge equals no criminal defense. The government destroyed my family. I have all the proof and evidence just no lawyer. Most likely blacklisted, and for what? My son’s life is destroyed now. I have a disability on top of all of this. I lost section 8 voucher, I have nothing. Randall Terry has helped destroy my life and he’s destroying my son’s life. I tried to cut a deal, but all they want is for me to be destroyed. Judicial commission has failed me not following victim rights, they never mail me their response decision anymore. I’m just a nobody to everything it seems just for being a victim,witness and target to government crimes. I try and post on Facebook and immediately my post disappears. I have all the proof if anyone out there cares about human beings, email me and reference this post. I’m desperate for the truth to come out. It’s only harassment if what you are saying isn’t true. So far nobody in this country will stand up for the truth as d justice here! If my story gets taken down, I’ll find another way. If I get murdered trying to expose the truth, I’ve arranged for the truth to hit the world. If I die from this infection, it still hurts the world. I’m done being a victim and told I can’t speak the truth. This country has not shown me truth and justice and I’m terrified of our country right now. Just plain terrified.
