Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn says he's thrilled there will be a Publix in downtown's Channel District. By Seán Kinane / WMNF News.

The growing number of residents of downtown Tampa are finally getting a large grocery chain. Mayor Bob Buckhorn told reporters Tuesday morning that the Publix to be built in the Channel District will create about two hundred construction jobs and two hundred permanent jobs.

“I think it will bring something that’s been missing.”

“This is something that we’ve been working on for four years. It really was the last piece of this mosaic that we call downtown Tampa.”
