Hurricane & Other Disaster Planning/Response for Animals on "Talking Animals"
My guest on "Talking Animals" July 10 will be Michele Schilling, a member of the leadership team of the Bay Area Disaster Animal Response Team (DART).
Bay Area DART describes itself as “a team of volunteers focused on all aspects of dealing with animals in disaster situations. We are brought together for our love of animals and have backgrounds in animal and non-animal related fields.”
Toward that end, the Bay Area DART juggernaut provides an array of services and resources--most fundamentally, trained and experienced volunteers—in the event of a disaster that places pets and other animals in peril.
Mere weeks into hurricane season, I thought this might represent an ideal moment to delve into the world of Bay Area DART, along with discussions about preparing pets and other animals for hurricanes and others disasters (evacuation, sheltering, etc.), formulating a plan for your home in anticipation of responding to such a disaster, and more.
Michele Schilling will speak with us live, in studio, on "Talking Animals" on July 10 at 9am ET, and listeners are invited to participate in the conversation by calling (813-239-9663) or e-mailing (DJ@wmnf.org).
