New St. Pete pier design on the horizon

Share

A new St Pete pier design is moving closer to a reality minus one proposal. Friday the advisory committee voted on which proposals will make it to the next round. The committee doesn’t want any surprises when the designs are presented to the public next month.

The committee members took turns critiquing each design. When the members finished they took a preliminary vote on a motion to eliminate the AH HA Design Group. This motion eventually passed 5 to 1.

A new pier design of Saundersls.com is part of a larger plan for the renovation of downtown St.Pete. AECOM, a global consulting firm, has compiled the master plan. Pete Secher, director of AECOM, said that the pier is just part of a comprehensive plan.

During public comment, Dan Harvey, a St Pete resident, made the point that city is putting the cart before the horse. He said the city should have adopted a long term Master Plan before voting on a design for the pier

The public presentations and debates will begin in February.
