A man was shot and killed Tuesday morning in Palm River by SWAT team affiliated with the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office. This is Colonel Chad Chronister during a media briefing.

“Everyone inside the residence complied and exited the house except for our target: 22-year old male, Levonia Riggins, who refused to surrender.

“At some point during the execution of this search warrant, one of our SWAT-team members employed deadly force and Mr. Riggins was transported to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.”

The Sheriff’s Office later said Riggins died. They identified Deputy Caleb Johnson as the shooter. He was “placed on administrative leave with pay pending administrative review. This investigation continues with the State Attorney’s Office.”
