Tuesday, March 11
The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM at The Land O Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O Lakes Blvd/US 41, Land O Lakes, 34639, between SR 52 and SR 54. Land O Lakes Community Center is located on the west side of the highway. The subject of the Tuesday, March 11, 2014 meeting is The Back Ten Feet: From Grass to Natives, presented by Sue Scott. Sue currently works at Waterman Broadcasting in Ft. Myers, does contract work for the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary, and works part time at All Native Garden Center. She has taught classes on landscaping with native plants without chemicals and has created natural resource brochures, a Burrowing Owl Festival, and a television nature show. The Back Ten Feet of any typical property is the starting point for converting unproductive grass yards to drought tolerant, wildlife friendly, Florida native landscapes. In The Back Ten Feet there are NO pesticides, fertilizers or other man-made chemicals. Native flowers, shrubs and trees purchased from local native nurseries are used to help promote greenways throughout our neighborhoods. Meetings of the Chapter are free, and all interested parties are invited to attend, to bring questions about their yard, and participate in light refreshments and the native plant drawing. Telephone inquiries are taken by Sandy at (727) 376-7663. Chapter website: http://www.pasconativeplants.org.
