Former state Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam next year is slated to become chair of the Board of Directors of Alico, Inc., a major Florida citrus grower, the company announced Monday.
Putnam, who has served on the board since 2020, is expected to become chair in February, when current Chair George Brokaw completes his term. Brokaw will remain on the board.
The Fort Myers-based Alico has extensive citrus and real-estate holdings.
Putnam served two terms as agriculture commissioner before losing a 2018 bid for governor.
He has served as chief executive officer of Ducks Unlimited since 2019.
Before becoming agriculture commissioner, Putnam, a Republican from Polk County, served in Congress and in the Florida House.
“With his public policy and public service experience, Adam brings to the board expertise in understanding and navigating the physical and transition risks and opportunities of climate change, together with his knowledge of sustainability, water supply, and agricultural operations within Florida’s regulatory environment,” Alico President and Chief Executive Officer John Kiernan said in a prepared statement Monday.
