A Conversation With Zuzu On Life Elsewhere

Zuzu

She is very proud of her heritage and wanted to make sure it was part of the conversation.

“My father is half Iranian and half British, my mother is part Italian, part African American and part Native American,” she announces boldly, adding, “I think that’s a great thing!”

Zuzu, an extraordinarily talented British musician speaks confidently with Norman B, on all manner of topics. She’s forthright and honest, disavowing any notion that she has to say or do what may be expected. Her music tells of her understanding of where influences come from, be it Robert Johnson or The Cocteau Twins. There is a maturity in her work, that harkens back to Soul and R & B, yet the results are truly now. She unabashedly references her parents and the music they played as she grew up. These are happy thoughts Zuzu embraces.

With only a small sample of her musical abilities currently available, her debut album due out in 2016, is eagerly anticipated. Make sure you don’t miss Norman B’s conversation with Zuzu in the next edition of Life Elsewhere. Below is a sneak preview, with Zuzu talking about “people”.

I’m confused…how do these things work.. if you grew up in the U.S. -which I assume she did, since her mother is Jill Jones, and I thought she lived in New York, during most of her childhood, so wouldn’t that make her American, even if she doesn’t live there now?- Anyway, I’m just rambling.
