County Commission candidates, except Norman, share transit ideas

Share

Six people are running for the county-wide District 6 seat on the Hillsborough County Commission to replace Kevin Beckner: four Democrats and two Republicans; five of them answered questions Friday afternoon at the Tampa Tiger Bay Club — former County Commissioner Jim Norman said he was visiting his sick father.

The remaining five candidates differed on how to fix transportation. The current County Commission will vote on June 9 on whether to put a fifteen-year half-cent sales tax increase on the ballot this fall to help pay for transportation needs.

The five candidates that did show up all support legalizing some forms of medical marijuana. But unlike the Democrats, Republican Tim Schock opposes the referendum on November’s ballot.

The Democrats are former County Commissioner Tom Scott, former WMNF talk show host Pat Kemp, former Plant City Mayor John Dicks and Democrat Brian Willis.
