Floridians for Solar Choice aiming for 2018, not 2016

It’s been speculated for a while, but Monday for the first time the executive director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy said for certain the Floridians for Solar Choice question will not be on this year’s ballot, though 2018 is possible.

Our guest by phone from Ft. Lauderdale was Alissa Schafer. She’s solar communications and policy manager with the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. That’s the group that’s trying to get the Floridians for Solar Choice amendment on the ballot.

Next Monday they’re filing legal briefs with the FL Supreme Court opposing another ballot initiative. It’s called Consumers for Smart Solar and is backed by the state’s largest utilities.

We also covered the fourteenth anniversary of the opening of the controversial prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. On Fox News Sunday President Barack Obama’s chief of staff said the president will complete a promise to close the U.S. prison at Guantanamo. Denis McDonough said Obama will first present a long-awaited plan to Congress about how to close the facility, and seek its approval. McDonough says ff Congress does not act the White House will then figure out what steps to take to close the prison.
