A leaked list from US House Republicans proposes over 2 trillion dollars in Medicaid cuts- and it could affect more than 4 million Floridians relying on it.
Politico reports the list emerged from the House Budget Committee.
Activists and Medicaid enrollees spoke out in a press call from the Florida Policy Insitute to express concern over the list.
Joan Alker is executive director at Georgetown University Center for Children and Families.
“It is so important for the public to understand the kinds of impacts these cuts could have, which would be truly devastating,” Alker said during a press conference hosted by the Florida Policy Institute.
According to an August report by KFF, 1 in 9 Floridians ages 19 to 64 rely on the service.
And for children, it’s 2 out of 5.
Latifah Griffin moved from Pennsylvania to West Palm Beach in 2023.
She said the cuts could impact her and her son with cerebral palsy.
“I would likely need to quit my job because I would need to stay home due to being unable to afford the services for him without Medicaid,” Griffin said.
Andrea Dumala suffered serious injuries after a car accident with a drunk driver.
“I’ve been deeply impacted by losing Medicaid coverage, and I came to learn that our harshest lesson is that our healthcare system is completely broken at the time when you need it most.” Dumala said.
California leads the country with the most people on Medicaid.

The only thing that is keeping me going is my social security and I don’t have any money left to pay for my bills so I need money for my bills
I have a daughter with Down Syndrome who definitely needs her medicaid for her health needs.
Patients on Medicaid are faced with life threatening situations this loss is tragic it must end!
My elderly parents depend on their home care nurses and workers if they lose their services and the wait list for memory loss units is very long. I’m afraid we’d need to take them to the hospital and leave them in their care.
Florida – where politicians suck the life out of you….
The healthcare insurance companies are eating everyone alive. Medicaid cuts need to be stopped and healthcare should not be FOR PROFIT. Get the DEMS back in office before we lose all the programs that support people in poverty, lower incomes, single parents, disabled.
I can’t afford to pay my bills with that money coming out of my Social Security
I’m also on a fixed income and have a lot of health issues.
It would be devastating to loose Medicaid.
My Sister passed last week at age 66. For the past 45 years , she’s suffered from mental illness. I had to fight for years to finally get her SSDI when she finally did, it changed everything. But thru the years services were cut drastically. Which caused homelessness, medical issues etc. this past year she was in and out of hospitals. I finally got some physical therapy and behavioral support, but no in home health care. It’s been exhausting, and frustrating. Do better Florida!
Me and my family just moved here from Georgia and I have a very sick husband who suffers from a lot of health issues. And I’m unable to work because I have to take care of him and we also have three younger children that we are still raising his disability is not enough for me to be able to pay all the bills and provide the children with what they need and we are also helping my daughter with our first grandbaby. Children and families told me that I was not eligible for Medicaid because our household of eight income goes over $300 a month that is ridiculous. All we’re bringing in is 1350. How is that possibly enough to pay all the bills that we have and provide For our children as well as get me back-and-forth to the doctor, I’ve recently found out that I’ve been having some severe health issues As well as mental health. And I also have problems with my teeth that requires me to need new dentures. I’m losing massive amount of weight. I’ve called down and asked them. Could they check over my case again because there’s no way we all was on Medicaid in the state of Georgia, but not in the state of Florida, my 19-year-old me at 44 as well as my 20-year-old are not eligible for Medicaid. A woman of my age. Need to have yearly checkup when you get to be a certain age. A woman needs to go see a doctor on the regular especially when she has a lot of stress going on in her life and we know our bodies anything can happen at any time. I just feel like it’s not fair that I am not eligible or my daughter’s for Medicaid.
*I sent this to Governor Kemp and President Biden.
*regarding the University of Illinois at Chicago Health Informatics Certificatic,
*those courses were “free” from Fed/ Office of Inspector General re/ hospital EHR integration push initiative.
I’m very concerned if HUGE Medicaid spending cuts are for real. Maybe they’re trying to “disrupt” healthcare, but it’s already broken. I feel we must use what we already have – Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security – and integrate those systems effectively, building on what’s already there. That approach should permit cost saving during its restructuring.

trump is doing all of this FOR NO REASON other than power. He MUST be stopped. He’s given access to U.S. treasury to Musk and his crew — which is illegal !! Musk can access his own gov’t contracts and what is he doing with them? it’s ALL illegal — trump gave access to secure info —- ILLEGAL
I don’t know where we are going with this , int this Government supposed to help and protect people.

I’ve been sick for so many years. I need that share of cost badly. I have very expensive medications to live. If you could name it I have it. Especially with CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE STAGE 4.
