The number of deaths linked to COVID-19 in Florida continues to gradually increase.

Data on the Florida Department of Health website Tuesday showed 2.740 resident deaths had been linked to COVID-19 this year.

Two weeks earlier, the website showed 2,658 deaths.

The pace of deaths, however, is lower than during the past four years. The pandemic hit the state in 2020. That year, Florida had a reported 23,344 deaths, according to state data.

The number jumped to 39,866 in 2021, before declining to 21,291 in 2022 and 8,436 in 2023. Miami-Dade County has had the most deaths this year, with 236.

It is followed by Palm Beach County, with 215 deaths.
