Twistin’ Down Central: A Tribute to Tampa’s Black Music Legends

Share

Tampa Red, Ella Fitzgerald, Chick Webb, and Ray Charles are just a few of the notable musicians to play in Tampa during Central Avenue’s heyday. This will be celebrated at 6 pm on Friday, July 28, as they dive into the work of legendary Black musicians that lifted spirits and defined Central Avenue’s cultural legacy. The program’s guest panelists include Kitty Daniels and Andre Walker, and the evening will feature the music of Belinda Womack. It’s the second program of a new initiative by the Tampa Bay History Center in partnership with the Tampa Housing Authority to provide educational experiences in the historic St. James Episcopal Church, located at 1202 North Governor Street, Tampa.
