“Turning The Other Cheek” on Morning Energy

Political debates have been a key component in the American presidential races and other political races for decades. The first debate for the 1960 presidential election (between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy) drew over 66 million viewers out of a population of 179 million, making it one of the most-watched broadcasts in U.S. television history. Although Nixon was initially perceived as the would-be winner, the performance by a suave and charismatic Kennedy, coupled with the visible nervous and blotchy performance of Nixon, made Nixon the clear looser.

In 1988, another historic debate moment arose when Democratic Vice-Presidential Candidate, Lloyd Bentsen, sternly remarked to Dan Quayle, “Senator, you’re no Jack Kennedy.” While referencing Kennedy’s political experience and knowledge, Quayle made a comment that he had similar levels himself. Bensten took offense to this statement due to his close friendship with Kennedy.

Heated political debates and insults have been occurring for decades, and only the candidates themselves will choose if they are going to put into practice the now famous words of former First Lady Michele Obama, “When they go low, we go high”.

On Morning Energy,  we are going to spend time exploring how to go high by “Turning The Other Cheek” as it relates to various areas of our lives.

Join me Renna, your Radio Flayme  Friday from 4 to 6 a.m. for another musical journey.   I am definitely looking forward to spending time with you on the airwaves and sharing your energy!!! Hope you are able to tune in! If not you can always listen back for a week on the Morning Energy archives.
