Bigger and better than last year—this year’s festival has a dozen performers over 7 hours and will be held at one of Tampa Bay’s Award winning breweries, Cage Brewing in the St Pete arts district. Advanced sales will be available at outlets or on-line until 12 noon on Saturday for $12 (day of show) or tickets will be for sale at the door (open at 3pm) for $15.

Developed in the 1880s, the ukulele is based on several small guitar-like instruments of Portuguese origin.

Hawaiian musician Israel Kamakawiwo’ole helped re-popularize the instrument, in particular with his 1993 medley of “Over the Rainbow” and “What a Wonderful World,” used in films, television programs, and commercials.

Not since 12 year old Grace VanderWaal won the 2016 America’s Got Talent contest playing the ukulele has the ukulele world been as excited about a ukulele event as they are about WMNF’s tribute to the ukulele. Hyperbole? Not when it comes to ukulele fans! A dozen bands/solos are putting on a ukulele festival Saturday December 2nd at Cage Brewery. Not only will this give you a chance to pull out the Hawaiian shirt you have stashed in the back of your closest—but you’ll have a chance to see some of the best ukulele players all in one spot, all in one day.

You’ll hear everything from ukulele Reggae and Bluegrass sounds to Americana and Rock—the little ukulele knows no limits. There will be all kinds of ukuleles in action—bass ukes, electric ukes, banjo ukes, resonator ukes and acoustic ukes.

Cage Brewery will even be presenting a one-day only special ukulele beer The Surfin’ Ukulele IPA

The show begins with a ukulele tribute to the Beatles and attendees are encouraged to bring their ukuleles to join in. Professional, amateurs and audience members alike are. The night continues with a line up of 8 of the best ukulele bands around.

Plus there will be a Peter Townshend of the of the Ukulele contest: “Who Are Uke ?” See who can take the ukulele to the limit and beyond. Anyone at the show can sign up on the spot (until slots are filled) and compete for the title and trophy. So bring your ukuleles-and your best 2 minute Townshend windmill strum. You’ll love the trophy and the prize!

To round out the evening, there will be a chance for up and coming ukulele players to showcase their chops. Participants can sign up for the Open Uke anytime during the evening—first come first serve basis.

3-pm doors open (folks can set up chairs outside for jam) Music starts at 4pm.
