It’s a pretty hot HOT BOX of music for April

Share

Every week or so the Music Department of WMNF adds some new music to the Hot Box for the djs to play. There is a ton of tasty bits in the current one.

Father John Misty – Pure Comedy

Father John doesn’t appeal to everyone, but this might be one of the records of the year. Here is Pitchfork’s review. And the last line of the song…

Thundercat –  Drunk

Thundercat has an edge on everyone because he features a kitty cat. Read more about him and his amazing being here.

Jesca Hoop – Memories Are Now

If you saw Iron & Wine (Sam Beam) a few years ago at the Starz Center, Jesca Hoop opened for him and they sang a few songs together as well. At the time I thought she was a bit precious, but interesting. The precious is gone, and the interesting has really ramped up. Here is the Guardian’s take.

Bright Light Social Hour – Tear Down that Wall

Bright Light dropped this on Inauguration Day. It is a cornucopia of middle finger gestures, just so you are warned. And also of cameos from Austin bands.

The New Pornographers –  Whiteout Conditions

Fans of jangly pop? This is 100% the way to go. Newsday thinks so too.

Garland Jeffreys – 14 Steps to Harlem

Love forever for Garland Jeffreys. This is poetry, and a tribute to family. Read more here.

Hurray For The Riff Raff  – The Navigator

I can’t remember which WMNF dj played this when I was driving somewhere, but it immediately became my Spring anthem. Apparently I’m not alone. NPR likes it a bunch as well. indis
