PAWS Founder Pat Derby on "Talking Animals"
Sep 10 2008 11:30
Our guest on "Talking Animals," Sept. 10, at 11:30am, will be PAT DERBY, founder of The Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), an organization on the cusp of celebrating its 25th anniversary, and which operates three animal sanctuaries in Northern California, among them the 2300-acre ARK 2000, where 11 elephants live.
An internationally-recognized figure in the animal world, Derby worked decades ago as a Hollywood animal trainer, authored the books "The Lady And Her Tiger" and "In The Presence Of Elephants" and, as an expert on captive wildlife, has testified before Congress and has consulted elsewhere about standards of care for elephants and other exotic species.
We'll be speaking with Pat Derby live on Sept. 10, and listeners are invited to call (813-239-9663) or e-mail (DJ@wmnf.org) to participate in the conversation.
