Sue Martino, Exec. Dir. of The Pet Project, on "Talking Animals"
Talking Animals Nov 04 2009 11:30
My guest on "Talking Animals" Nov. 4 will be SUE MARTINO, Executive Director of The Pet Project, an Oakland Park-based organization that helps serve the needs of pet owners who are living with HIV/AIDS, have a terminal illness, are disabled or a senior on a low fixed income.
The organization's mission statement reads, in part: "Assisting with pet care and maintenance, The Pet Project empowers people living with terminal disease to care for and keep their companion animals."
Shining the "Talking Animals" spotlight on The Pet Project was spurred by reporter Lisa Marzilli's Oct. 16 story on the WMNF Evening News about Craig Cohen--the gay man who died six months after a brutal beating, and the newly-formed and existing organizations (including The Pet Project) that have looked after Cohen's six animals since the attack, as well as Broward County authorities' decision not to prosecute the murder as a hate crime--which can can be found here: http://www.wmnf.org/news_stories?month=10&page=2&year=2009
Sue Martino will speak with us live on Nov. 4, and listeners are invited to participate in the conversation by calling (813-239-9663) or e-mailing (DJ@wmnf.org).
